Marriott International Hosts 2016 Charity Golf Tournament to Support Children's Education in China

SHANGHAI, May 6, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In line with Marriott International's Spirit to Serve community campaign, cluster hotels in East China today hosted the highly anticipated 2016 Marriott East China Charity Golf Tournament. All proceeds will be donated to Marriott International's charity partner, Yao Foundation, to support rural education in China. Yao Foundation is a highly regarded charity organization established in 2008 by the former Chinese basketball player, Yao Ming.

The charity golf tournament took place at the Shanghai Agile Mickelson Shanghai International Club with the participation of more than 130 golfers that included corporate customers, sponsorship partners and senior executives of Marriott International as well as Yao Ming.

"We have collaborated with the Yao Foundation since 2013. To further foster children's education in China, last year we extended the partnership and committed to establishing four more new Hope Schools, as well as providing supporting resources and organizing three basketball seasons," said Silvio Rosenberger, Chairman of Marriott East China Business Council. They will help our efforts in opening doors of a world of opportunity to the children in rural China."

The 2016 tournament was jointly hosted by a cluster of 31 Marriott International hotels in Shanghai, Ningbo, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Kunshan, Changzhou, Yiwu and Nanjing. The title sponsor for the event was BMW, a world renowned luxury vehicle and motorcycle manufacturing company. The winner of hole-in-one won the prize of a BMW 7 Series vehicle. Throughout the 18 holes of golf, the players were treated to the world famous "Marriott International" hospitality. Following the tournament an award ceremony and reception was enjoyed by all players and participants in the Agile Mickelson Shanghai International Clubhouse.
