CCID Consulting: Problems Exposed in the Snow

2008-03-31 17:34 1089

BEIJING, March 31 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- CCID Consulting, China’s leading research, consulting and IT outsourcing service provider, and the first Chinese consulting firm listed in Hong Kong (SEHK: 8235), recently released its article on systemic problems revealed during the recent snowstorm. In January 2008, a heavy snow hit nineteen provinces and municipalities in East China and Central China and more than 100 million people suffered from the disaster. This unexpected snow disaster caused trouble for IT manufacturers and distributors that were busy in preparing for the sales promotions before and after Spring Festival. They could do nothing in the face of a series of problems, such as falling sales value, contract compensation, supply blockage and product shortage. Objectively, it is difficult to avoid snow disasters, but some losses may be kept to a minimum through effective measures. According to CCID Consulting, this snow disaster exposed some problems of China’s IT market.

First, a rapid and effective emergency response mechanism is required.

The government has established a set of emergency response regulations and can release the corresponding emergency response plans as soon as possible. Manufacturers and distributors should copy this practice and establish an emergency response mechanism in order to form groups and provide solutions upon emergencies for guaranteeing smooth marketing and small losses.

Second, awareness of establishing a brand image needs to be promoted

Losses are unavoidable with snow disasters. Manufacturers should take the overall situation into consideration when considering their own losses and should make respective contributions, such as donations, organization of disaster relief units and disaster relief supplies. Manufacturers will win public praise, establish brand image and promote market influence through their contributions.

Third, reasonable distribution of industry links is required

East China boasts the most complete IT hardware industry links in the world. Manufacturers of key upstream parts, such as chips, hard disks, main boards and displays as well as Top 10 notebook computer OEM enterprises are all in East China, but many problems appeared after the Shanghai-Nanjing Expressway, Shanghai Hongqiao Airport and Pudong Airport were all out of operation owing to snow disaster. In particular, spare part enterprises that are relatively isolated suffered the most. Therefore, manufacturers should make comprehensive consideration of all factors, such as region, economy, culture and climate, and build industry chains solidly, lest the overall situation be affected by errors from certain links.

This snow disaster caused great inconvenience to the people’s lives. Under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee, people from across the country united as one and successfully navigated the disaster. CCID Consulting believe that the IT market will become more mature after being tested by the snowstorm.
