HONG KONG, Aug. 31, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Richard R. Vuylsteke, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, will be leaving the Chamber in January 2017 to embark on a new role as president of the East-West Center in Hawaii.

"During more than eight years of outstanding leadership at the Chamber, Richard increased the stature and effectiveness of AmCham and built a fabulous team of professionals who effectively benefit our members with strong programs, advocacy, and other support. Vuylsteke has an extensive early background in Hawaii, including earning M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from theUniversity of Hawaii with support from grants from the East-West Center. He also served in research and administrative capacities at the Center and taught for many years at the University of Hawaii and at Chaminade University.
Vuylsteke has spent 35 years studying and working in the Asia-Pacific region. Just prior to joining AmCham HK, he served as President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei.
"A President Search Committee has already been assembled to assist the Board of Governors in selecting the Chamber's next President," says Chairman Dias. "AmCham HK is highly regarded throughout the region and in the U.S., so we are anticipating a substantial number of nominations and applications for Richard's replacement. The committee will work with a professional search firm to identify a leader who will continue the level of excellence expected from our Chamber."
