ITE Hong Kong 2023 - Visitors with effective pent-up demand boost tourism recovery

HONG KONG, Oct. 5, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- The physical ITE2022 drew in first 1.5 days 2752 registered local trade visitors (+8.2%) and in remaining 2.5 days 31098 public visitors (+14.7%) over 2021 and about 38% and 42% of 2019 levels respectively. 71% of its 100 plus exhibitors from abroad; of 32 participating countries and regions, some 20 were official pavilions / stands staged by tourism boards from various destinations.

ITE2022 results beyond expectation! Media reported exhibitors receiving 10 times more serious enquiries, believing many in Hong Kong can (afford) with strong travel interest! Also, ITE2022's public visitors survey found 55% will increase travel budget for the coming year while 35% uncertain; 21% respondents will travel abroad within 3 months and 44% within 6 months; and 23% picked Europe and North America among preferred post-pandemic destinations. Collaboratively, seminars, say, on / by Yellowknife Canada, Iceland, Maldives and St. Petersburg well attended.

In July, Hong Kong residents made 147500 departures.

A major market, Hong Kong in 2019 spent USD26.9 billion on outbound and ranked third in Asia after mainland China and South Korea! With per capita outbound spending at US$3587 Hong Kong came ahead of South Korea at US$624.

Pre-pandemic, attending ITE were over 2000 buyers and trade visitors who came from neighboring cities, say, Shenzhen and Guangzhou etc., which together with Macau and other Guangdong cities constitute the Greater Bay Area (Bay), where live 86 million people, had a combined GDP of US$1,668.8 billion in 2020 which put it world's 9th largest economy.
