- Incentives to encourage Singaporeans to adopt a healthy lifestyle
2016-06-08 10:00 2528

SINGAPORE, June 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Active Ager Asia, an online wellness portal, has launched in Singapore. The portal pays members to walk, in an effort to encourage Singaporeans to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

To get rewarded, members have to take part in Challenges by walking a specified number of steps over a fixed time period. Time periods vary from a day, to a week and to a month. Rewards range from cash to small items such as supermarket vouchers and to large value experiences such as staycations.

"Many people are apathetic towards keeping healthy habits, especially when they are feeling well. We are approaching health maintenance by working with the most common unit of activity, walking," Aaron Kong, Managing Director, Active Ager Asia said. "This is the first wellness programme in Singapore that pays members to walk. We want to be the external motivational trigger, the carrot, that gets members walking and started on a healthy lifestyle."

  • Device and operating system neutral
The system integrates with wearables such as Fitbit and Jawbone as well as Google Fit and MOVES mobile applications[1]. According to IDC, Fitbit has the highest global market share of connected wearable devices[2].
  • Registration is free
Members can register with the portal for free at www.activeager.asia. The free membership tier provides members with access to their dashboard, integration with their preferred wearable or steps tracker mobile application and to merchant privileges.
  • Participation in Challenges requires an annual subscription
Members can upgrade to a basic or family level to participate in Challenges and to get access to health and wellness-related events.
The cost of an annual (12 months from registration) basic membership is S$36. The annual family membership is S$90 for three persons.
According to a recent survey by Families For Life in Singapore, 92% and 80% of respondents' key priorities were family and health respectively[3]. Active Ager Asia successfully combines family time with a healthy habit -- of walking -- that will help members achieve both priorities.
  • Merchant privileges and events
Members can show their virtual membership card (located on their profile page) to participating merchants for discounts, promotional codes or other privileges. Participating merchants at launch include Caveman, Glacier Yoghurt, Good Beer Company, Grain, and KFit.
