HONG KONG, July 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- "International Children Painting Competition in Hong Kong 2015/16" (ICPC), an international mega painting event organised by the "Youth Artists Development Foundation" (YADF), was divided into two stages. The first stage of the competition accepted mail-in entries, with over 11,400 entries from over 30 countries and regions received, of which 60 young artists aged 13-18 from 10 countries and regions were selected to participate in the On-site Painting Competition in 7 Hong Kong historic and scenic landmarks from 10 to 14 July. The overseas participants are from Czech Republic, Russia, Lithuania, Romania, Malaysia, Thailand, Poland, Ukraine, Serbia and Hong Kong. An 8-member jury responsible for assessing all entries completed their final tasks earlier today (15 July 2016), and unveiled all titles in a final award presentation ceremony at the Pacific Coffee Emporium in Fashion Walk, Causeway Bay.
Officiated by Ms. Florence Hui, SBS, JP, Under Secretary for Home Affairs, HKSAR Government; Mrs. Nellie Fong, Chairman of YADF; Sir David Akers-Jones, KBE, CMG, GBM, KP, Parton of YADF; Mr. Jonathan Somerville, Chief Executive Officer for Hong Kong & Overseas for Pacific Coffee Company Limited and, Ms. Katherine Lo, Senior Manager, Leasing & Management for Hang Lung Properties Limited, the ceremony celebrated the outstanding performances of the international and Hong Kong young artists.
60 Young Artists "Rediscover" Hong Kong with their best strokes
30 representatives from 10 overseas schools selected from the first stage of the competition, together with 30 local young artists competed for the top honour of the "ICPC 2015/16 On-Site Painting Competition" in 7 historic and scenic landmarks from 10th July to 14th July. These included Chater Garden, Tsz Shan Monastery, Lee Tung Avenue, Sai Kung, The Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club, Victoria House and Hong Kong Park. They cast their impressions of Hong Kong's heritage buildings and tourist spots on painting scrolls through their own perspectives, helping us to rediscover the long overlooked beauty of this city that we call our own.
Eight international youth artist experts were appointed to the jury for selecting the best works during the final competition. They selected daily award winners namely the "Best of the Day" and "Merits of the Day" awards. All final assessment tasks were completed earlier today, with decisions on winners for "International Best Young Artist" First Prize, Second Prize, Third Prize and 10 Certificates of Merit. All competing overseas schools were also eligible for the "Grand Prize" title. Eunice Cheung from Hong Kong won the "International Best Young Artist". Russia Team captured the International Grand Prize of School.

Judges left with high praises for overall performance
Over the course of the competition, all members of the judge panel were impressed by the high artistic standard and penmanship of this year's entries. Mr. Man Tin, Programme Manager of Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education commented, "All contestants this year have demonstrated splendid artistic senses and outstanding painting techniques. Most importantly, they are highly imaginative with good sketching skills. They reanimated Hong Kong's landmarks with their unique styles. I would like to express my gratitude for all young artists, for your excellent performances have made this competition great."
Apart from promoting cultural and arts exchange, the competition has also enabled the 60 young artists to become good friends. Ana Vlaiculescu from Romania said, "This is my first time to Hong Kong, I' ve never expected the humid summer in Hong Kong may bring obstacle while I was finishing my paintings. But, I know I will be stronger facing difficulties in the future." Liliya Nezametdinova from Russia said, "The historical buildings are my all-time favorite theme of painting in Russia. This competition brought me a brand new impression of Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a hectic and modern city, there are not only skyscrapers but also storied architectures, Former Legislative Council Building is one of my favorites."
