KUNMING, China, May 28, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- 2012 Go West training program, a collaboration between the China Institute of Radiologists and Philips, was launched recently in Kunming. KOLs from the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, China Institute of Radiologists, the Radiologist Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Yunnan Medical Doctor Association along with Philips senior executives presided over the launching ceremony. Initiated at the end of 2010, in less than one year, the program has trained around 1,000 radiologists from the provinces of Qinghai, Ningxia, Xinjiang and Gansu.

With deepening healthcare reform in China, healthcare investment in West China has increased sharply resulting in great improvements of the quality and quantity of medical equipment. Therefore, training for the proper operation of those equipments and diagnostic skills is particularly important for radiologists. Mr. Guo Qiyong, the president of the China Institute of Radiologists, notes that “to improve the diagnostic skills for the primary radiologists will be the key focus for a long time in the future. As the increasing improvement of the hardware, we need to catch up with the progress in personnel training, and then to promote the comprehensive development of healthcare in Western China.”

After offering training courses in Yunnan, “Western China Radiologist Training Program” will continue its training in provinces of Guizhou, Tibet and Guangxi in 2012. As the global leading provider of healthcare solutions, Philips will provide financial and technology support for the collaboration projects. Desmond Thio, President of Philips Healthcare Greater China, said, “As a responsible corporate citizen, we are honored to continue to organize this program with the China Institute of Radiologists. Imaging plays a big role in disease prevention, diagnosis and treatment. We are very happy to use our specialty to promote the primary healthcare level.”

During the Kunming training session, a number of experienced experts presented courses targeted at seven different disease areas covering diagnostic of abdominal imaging, mammary gland, and pancreas etc. to the local radiologists. Participating physicians learned a great deal and concluded that this is an excellent opportunity for them to improve their professional skills and consult with experts. After all the training courses, the attending physicians were all awarded training certificates.
