Brand Pattern in China's Mobile Phone Market

With continuous price drops and growing low-end product sales, revenue from mobile phone sales are falling year by year. Overall profits in the mobile phone market are gradually falling.

As the market grows, brands also become much more concentrated. CCID Consulting's latest research report shows that in the first half of 2007, Nokia, Motorola and Samsung accounted for 61.4% of the overall mobile phone market, up 8.9% year-on-year.

CCID Consulting's data also shows that Nokia and Motorola both saw a notable rise in their market shares over the first half of 2006. The sum of their market shares rose almost 10%. CCID Consulting thinks the main reason behind this is that the 2 companies staged major offensives in the low-end mobile phone market in the first half of 2007. CCID Consulting's "Research Report on China's Mobile Phone Market, January-June 2007" shows that Nokia and Motorola accounted for 57% of the market of mobile phones priced between 500-700 Yuan. Their share of the market of mobile phones priced under 500 Yuan reached as high as 70%.
