CCID Consulting: Review and Forecast on China's DC Market in 2008H1

The Olympic domino effect drove market development of China's DC market in 2008 H1, amid negative impacts under the Snow Disaster and Wenchuan Earthquake. CCID Consulting statistics show that China's DC market went through a period of stable development in 2008 H1 due to price cuts and active sales promotion.

CCID Consulting believes that China's DC market has the following characteristics in 2008 H1.

1. China's DC Market Grows Rapidly, Increased by 31%

Compared with China's market potential, DC market is far from saturation and with 3-4 tier markets still to be developed. CCID Consulting statistics show that the sales volume of China's DC market in 2008 H1 reaches 4.9409 million, up 31.0% over 2007 H1. The sales revenue reaches 9.988 billion, up 13.3% over 2007 H1.

2. Canon Takes Lead and Aigo Remains in Top Ten Brands

Canon strengthened its leading position in 2008 H1 and the market share increased from 26.5% in 2007 H1 to 28.2% in 2008 H1. Sony kept the second position as well and market share increased slightly due to outstanding product promotion.

Besides, Samsung, Olympus, Nikon were the top five brands in China's DC market. The market share of Kodak further declined. Aigo, a domestic brand, remained in the top ten brands in China's DC market, taking advantages in price, channels, and brand publicity.

3. High Definition DC Increases Significantly; Sales Volume of 8M Pixel and Beyond Products Takes a Share of More Than 60%

Product structure upgrades due to improving products and channels, as well as price cuts were features of China's DC market in 2008 H1.

8M pixel DC products and beyond have been the mainstream in the market because of their flourish product types and price cutting. The market share of 8M pixel and beyond DC products reached 63.0%. Sales volume of 6M pixel products decreased despite their price advantages. The market share decreased from 12.1% in 2007 H1 to 1.5% in 2008 H1.

7M pixel products have been the threshold in China's DC market. Sales volume of 7M pixel and below products decreases, while sales volume of 7M pixel and beyond product increases. Sales volume of 8M and beyond products grows rapidly.

China's DC market scale will keep growing in 2008 H2. CCID Consulting forecasts that China's DC market will have the following trends in 2008 H2.

1. Consuming DC Technology Advancement Still Limited

DC market still focuses on pixel, zoom, screen size, appearance and other aspects in new products, through marketing channels of market promotion, media popularization, as well as sales promotion. On the other hand, there are a few highlights in technology innovation other than face recognition and pixel restoration.

With popularization of high definition and high pixel products, CCID Consulting believes that DC companies will take a pragmatic attitude to product technology advancement when driving development of the DC market. China's DC market will keep growing due to low DC popularity rate. Hence, consuming DC technology advancement will still be limited.

2. Gray DC will be Accepted in Low End Market
