2009-02-10 12:21 2805

CORNING, N.Y., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) announced on Feb 5th, 2009 that COWON SYSTEMS, Inc. has selected Corning's Gorilla(TM) glass (http://www.corning.com/specialtymaterials/products_capabilities/gorilla_glass.aspx ) for use in the COWON S9, the latest MP3 Player to be released by COWON SYSTEMS. Corning's Gorilla glass is an environmentally friendly, thin-sheet glass, which, upon chem-strengthening, provides device manufacturers with a highly durable, scratch-resistant, liquid crystal display (LCD) display cover for high-end mobile devices, touch-screen devices, and applications where high strength and reliability are required.

The COWON S9 features a 3.3-inch, AMOLED, capacitive-touch-panel display that provides 16 million colors on 480x272 pixels resolution. "Using Corning's proprietary fusion process, Gorilla glass has a pristine surface quality that promotes clarity and is both strong and damage resistant," said Mark Matthews, division vice president, Corning Specialty Materials (http://www.corning.com/specialtymaterials/index.aspx ) .

Corning Gorilla glass is available in a variety of thicknesses, from 0.5 millimeters up to 2.0 millimeters, providing flexibility in device design as well as glass processing. It is an environmentally friendly alumino-silicate. Fusion-draw technology enables the production of uniform thin sheets with a pristine surface. It is also adaptable to scalable sheet sizes for optimal throughput. The result is a drawn surface that in many cases requires no additional finishing for some applications while providing a wide range of thickness options, low-surface roughness and superior flatness. These benefits enable Corning customers to optimize device design and fabrication efficiencies.
