China Mobile and PetroChina Win Most Plaudits for Investor Relations

Chinese heavyweights China Mobile and PetroChina won big at IR Magazine Greater China Awards held in Hong Kong yesterday, picking up four awards each.

China Mobile walked away with the grand prix for the best overall IR by a Hong Kong-listed company, best IR for a large cap company and a sector award for technology, media and telecommunications (pan-China). It also picked up a Pan-Asian award for best overall IR.

PetroChina won the prestigious Pan-Asia award for best IR professional (Mao Zefang), adding to its awards haul of best overall IR by a Chinese SOE, best IR professional (mainland China) and best IR by sector (energy and utilities).

Li Hao of China Merchants bank won best IR by a CFO in the Pan-Asian category racking up a hat-trick of awards. Ping An and Taiwan Semiconductor were also awarded three gongs each.

Coming into the awards, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company had the most nominations, being shortlisted in nine categories. On the day it won best overall IR (Taiwan), best IR professional for Elizabeth Sun (Taiwan) and best IR by a CFO for Lora Ho (Taiwan). The best IRO award marked Sun's tenth consecutive award at the annual IR magazine awards.

Around 250 people attended the gala event, which was held at the Conrad Hong Kong hotel yesterday. The nominees and winners were determined by an independent survey of analysts and investors conducted by Thomson Extel.

The awards lunch was held in conjunction with an all day conference where IR professionals and expert speakers gathered for three sessions focusing on best practice investor relations.

The event was hosted in association with BNY Mellon Depositary Receipts and the Hong Kong Investor Relations Association, and was co-sponsored by Arkadin Global Conferencing, Brunswick, Citigate Dewe Rogerson, Extel Surveys, Hill & Knowlton, HSBC, Ipreo, irasia.com, NASDAQ OMX, PR Newswire Asia, Standard Chartered Equities and the Wall Street Journal Asia.
