Corning Enters Second Year of Lab Grant Program for Cell Culture Research

Investment in New Laboratories Demonstrates Company’s Commitment to Scientists, Facilities, and Research Results

LOWELL, Mass., Aug. 15 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW), a global supplier of scientific laboratory and drug discovery products for more than 90 years, on August 8, 2008 announced that its grant program for researchers opening new laboratory facilities will award six grants to researchers throughout 2008. The program was originated in 2007 as part of Corning’s celebration of the industry’s 100th anniversary of cell culture.

Recipients receive a $2,000 grant, payable in the form of Corning(R), Costar(R) or PYREX(R) laboratory products for use in cell culture research at their new facility. To date, Corning has issued grants to researchers at leading institutions including Spelman College, University of California-Davis, Baylor College of Medicine, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

"This program is a phenomenal way to assist researchers in achieving their goals and obtain the necessary equipment to start a functioning laboratory. Corning is setting an example of corporate responsibility by providing small research laboratories this valuable opportunity," said grant recipient Sandy Kelley, manager of Contained Research Facility at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California. "Through this program, I was able to purchase glass beakers and cylinders of various sizes to help us in our pursuit of effective and environmentally sound strategies to prevent, eradicate and control plant pests that pose risks to California’s ecosystems."
