In the United States, the Corning China Association, representing hundreds of Chinese employees and their families now living in Corning, NY, has led a significant employee donation effort. Rui Zhang, current chairman of CCA, said Corning-area employees’ response to the fundraising drive has been wonderful. “Our colleagues and friends, no matter what their ethnic background or where they are from, have all pulled together to respond to this situation. They see something devastating happening to other human beings and all boundaries disappear -- people just want to know, ‘What can I do? How can I help?’ "

At Corning’s China headquarters in Shanghai, Eric Musser, CEO of Corning Greater China, said, “The earthquake in Sichuan has had a terrible impact on China and on millions of its people. I am deeply moved by the care and concern demonstrated by Corning employees in China and by our colleagues around the world. For example, at Chengdu Corning Cable Systems, just 60 miles from the center of the earth quake, our employees worked very hard to get cable production back and running the next day so we could meet the immediate demand of China Telecom and China Mobile, who needed to rebuild the communications networks that had been destroyed.”

Musser also said, “We have been in China for more than 20 years; as a company and as individuals, we are committed to helping our friends and neighbors recover from this devastating tragedy.”
