BRISBANE, Australia, Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Corporate real estate (CRE) leaders will discuss the opportunities and challenges facing Australia's commercial property sector at a one day CoreNet Global Symposium scheduled to take place on August 30, 2011 at the Sebel Citygate Hotel, King George Square, Brisbane.

The symposium which is themed, 'What are the Issues Keeping CRE Managers Awake at Night?' will examine critical issues and trends that are shaping the commercial real estate industry with a special focus on the key concerns that corporate property managers and service providers face today.

Agenda highlights will include keynote presentations from Mr. Neil Bray, Valuer-General of the Queensland State Government who will discuss 'Current Issues with the Delivery of Statutory Valuations in Queensland.'

Delegates will also have the opportunity to learn about new trends and practices that are redefining the nature of work, the workplace and the delivery of real estate related services with presentations including:

  • Reload for the Future: Refrain or Respond - Bruce Simoneaux, Principal, Applied Research and Consulting, Steelcase;
  • If it's Legal, It's an Issue: Efficiencies in Legal Support to CRE - Maxwell Cameron, Partner, Minter Ellison;
  • CRE Meets ICT: Getting the Most Out of the Propeller Heads - David McEwen, Director of Consulting, Colliers International; Alastair Bor, General Manager, Perpetual; and Katherine Divett, National Manager Planning and Property, IAG;
  • Pending Changes to Financial Accounting Standards: Issues and Impact on CRE - Angus Harvey Ross, Senior Director, CB Richard Ellis (Global Corporate Services);
  • Never Mind about the CRE Managers - What's Keeping the Rest of Us Up at Night: An Insight into Colliers 2010 Tenancy Survey: Inputs and Outcomes - Paul Huston, Director - Tenant Representation, Colliers International.

Commenting on the symposium, Mr. Rod Baxter, Chair of CoreNet Global's Brisbane Chapter remarks, "Many of the discussions that will take place at this year's Brisbane Symposium will focus on the pressures facing most corporate practitioners and their service provider partners.

"With this in mind, participants will share experiences and offer solutions to a variety of issues that are concerning them. This is likely to include examples of how the global financial crisis and recent economic upswing have affected the way in which CRE executives manage their property portfolios, as well as strategies for improved cost control, risk management and adding value."

Although the future of corporate real estate in Australia looks promising, Mr. Baxter notes that there is more pressure on the country's CRE profession today as - due to the global financial crisis - CRE has an elevated presence at the boardroom level with greater empowerment, visibility and the ability to influence overall business strategy.

"Nonetheless, with this heightened visibility comes greater scrutiny and accountability. With cost control measures here to stay, not only are senior leadership looking to their CRE departments to provide savings, they also expect their corporate real estate colleagues to deliver more for less," he says.

CoreNet Global's Brisbane symposium builds on the association's ongoing commitment to support the professional development of its members by encouraging the sharing of insight and knowledge to empower CRE executives to respond more quickly to changing market conditions, opportunities, trends and developments.

In conclusion, Mr. Baxter confirms that the symposium has, to date, attracted widespread support from across the CRE community with registered participants including representatives from organizations that include Stanwell Corporation Limited, RACQ, Suncorp and Energex. Corporate sponsors Atlantis, CB Richard Ellis and ISIS have also pledged to support the event.

CoreNet Global's Brisbane Symposium will be held on August 30 between 8.30a.m. to 5.00p.m. For more information, please contact Rod Baxter on (61) 7 3228 4454 or at Rodney.Baxter@stanwell.com.  Alternatively, please visit www.corenetglobal.org for details.
