BANGKOK, Thailand, March 29 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Datacraft, the region's leading independent IT solutions and services company, has been chosen by Bangkok University to design and deploy a new campus network to support its growing IT requirements.

Founded in 1962, and offering courses in both English and Thai, Bangkok University has two campuses -- City Campus and Rangsit Campus -- which are 42 kilometres apart. These cater for a growing population of approximately 30,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 1,200 of academic and administrative staff.

Facing an increasing need for a robust IT infrastructure to support this community, the university realised it needed a new, well-architected, threat-resistant network to maximise performance, reduce services outages and increase overall reliability.

"Our students are increasingly reliant on technology to support their studies and research while our academic and administrative staff have different, but equally important IT needs," said Professor Attipa Julpisit, director of the computer centre at Bangkok University. "The bottom line was that we needed a more secure, reliable campus network, and Datacraft has provided the answer."

Datacraft Processional Services took up the challenge of devising a new network architecture that would meet the university's needs. The design they came up with is easy to manage, contributing to low total cost-of-ownership. As well as delivering the performance to meet current requirements and ability to scales to meet future needs, Datacraft's consultants put a lot of design focus on reliability. BU's new network has link-level redundancy to eliminate single points of failure and ensure availability.

"Excellent communications are not an option; they are critical to success in the increasingly competitive tertiary education sector," said Somchart Kanha, General Manager of Datacraft Thailand. "At Bangkok University, with its dual campuses, academic activities are now supported converged communications services running on a world-class IP network. We've designed the network to be easily upgradeable and so as Bangkok University continues to grow, so will this critical infrastructure."

With the new network, Bangkok University will be able to provide staff and students alike with high-speed Internet services. The seamless integration between the City and Rangsit campuses also includes VoIP telephony. In addition, the high-availability solution requires far less management and support delivering an excellent return on investment.
