Food Safety Leader: Synergy Signs Agreement with Caballus International for Australia, New Zealand and Beyond

2011-07-11 20:04 1793

MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 11, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Synergy Technologies, Inc., the Shreveport, LA-based food processing bacterial intervention firm, announced they have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Caballus International, of Welshpool, Western Australia. The agreement lays the foundation for both organizations to explore commercial opportunities for their SYNTRx® product line of food safety bacterial processing aids to the poultry, red meat and vegetable processing industry in Australia and New Zealand. In the USA, SYNTRx products are currently used by over 30 leading meat producers in the processing of over 4.5 million chickens each day and 4.5 million pounds of beef each day, to significantly reduce the threat posed by pathogenic bacteria.

Jeff McGlinn, Owner and Chairman of Caballus noted the significance of the relationship and what it means to Australia, stating "Food safety is a timely and growing international concern. Australia processes close to 8.5 million head of cattle per year, much of which is exported to Japan, Korea and the United States, and poultry production is significant at greater than 500,000,000 birds per year, as well as the vast majority of the world's commercial lamb and mutton harvest being sourced worldwide from Australia and New Zealand."

A January 2011 article published by Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) reported that "84% of the domestic chickens sampled during processing tested positive for Campylobacter and 13% for Salmonella (7.5% being positive for pathogenic Salmonella types). Chicken's sampled taken at the end of processing gave a similar prevalence for Campylobacter (84%), and more alarmingly, the samples had even higher prevalence of Salmonella (37% with 22% positive for the pathogenic types)." McGlinn says he hopes to dramatically improve food safety and increase profits for the industry and says "this is simply good business."

Randy Allen, President of Synergy Technologies, stated "We are very excited to initiate discussions with Jeff and his team to identify the best business arrangement to tackle the clear growing requirement to increase the relative safety of the food supply in Australia and New Zealand. Clearly, Caballus has both the contacts and the resources to bring to bear to on a project of this magnitude." Allen went on to add "Having a seasoned, well respected business partner in the Pacific Rim with the experience and expertise of Caballus will further Synergy's effort to expand the company's technology and presence in the space."
