Eco-friendly Mastercycler offers exceptional power-saving capability and low acoustic emissions

LONDON, Nov. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the PCR instrumentation market, Frost & Sullivan recognises Eppendorf AG with the 2012 European Green Excellence Award for its Mastercycler nexus.

"In addition to the reproducibility of results, the Mastercycler nexus also provides an optimised PCR reaction, low acoustic emissions and is suitable for all consumable types," noted Frost & Sullivan Senior Research Analyst Ms Divyaa Ravishankar. "This makes the Mastercycler nexus an ideal choice across a range of industry verticals such as academia and manufacturing sites."

An automated standby feature and the amount of power consumed are the two key highlights of the Mastercycler nexus. Power consumed during the standby mode is about three to five times lower when compared to competitor thermal cyclers.

A few instruments in the market still consume considerable amounts of power even when the thermal cycler is in a switched "off" mode. In contrast, Eppendorf's Mastercycler nexus is equipped with power saving capabilities which keeps it from consuming power when the machine is switched off.

This eco-friendly Mastercycler offers exceptional power-saving capability. During a PCR run, the Mastercycler nexus shows a power consumption of 510 W, which is much lower than competing platforms. In general, the Mastercycler nexus displays the lowest energy consumption in PCR instrumentations, which is about 32 to 63 per cent lower than other thermal cyclers.

The Mastercycler nexus is the only PCR instrument that produces a noise level below 40 dB(A). In comparison, other thermal cyclers display a noise level greater than 50 db(A).

"Eppendorf has become the preferred vendor-of-choice for its customers due to its extraordinary ability to deliver cutting-edge and cost-effective PCR instrumentation," added Ms Divyaa Ravishankar. "Mastercycler nexus minimises power consumption and facilitates a congenial environment with reduced noise levels."

The Mastercycler nexus delivers high technical performance that contributes to minimal technical variability during a PCR reaction. Studies indicate an outstanding homogeneous and accurate temperature control of the thermal cycler.

It also features an intuitive graphic programming feature which incorporates an email notification post the PCR run. Its flexlid concept allows the use of all types of consumables with automatic height adjustment of the lid. The cycler is also capable of retrieving a booking schedule via the software controller.

"SteadySlope technology ensures identical heating and cooling rates in gradient and non-gradient mode, thereby enabling an optimised PCR reaction," remarked Ms Divyaa Ravishankar. "The twelve different temperature gradients of the Mastercycler nexus constitute a powerful tool to optimise a PCR reaction."

The Frost & Sullivan Award for Green Excellence is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence in developing and offering innovative product, service, or technology solutions that address the concerns of climate change. This award recognises the company's inordinate efforts and focus on advancing the cause of long-term sustainability.
