Getac's New Convertible Tablet Generation Offers Fast, Efficient Computing in the Field

MILAN, Sept. 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Getac, a leading supplier of rugged computing solutions, has introduced a new generation of fully rugged convertible tablet, the V-Series.  In an upgrade to existing models, the new range is powered by the latest 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i5-3320M processor (3M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz) with Intel® vPro™ technology, offering users a 44% increase in CPU performance for speedier access to vital applications.

Integrated features such as sunlight readability and longer battery life enhance the tablets productivity and efficiency, making the new devices ideal for those professionals working in the field service, utility, and transportation industries.

The V-series, consisting of the V100 10.4" and V200 12.1", incorporates Intel® HD Graphics 4000 offering rapid access to high-performance graphics 540% faster than previous models.

The screens operate on minimum power usage (just that needed for a mobile device) helping to maximise the tablets' longer-lasting battery life.

With just a simple swivel of the screen, the V-series' rugged laptops can also become rugged tablets.

The V-series comes with advanced QuadraClear™ sunlight readable screen technology to provide excellent legibility under direct sunlight, and pressure sensitive touch screens allow the user to operate the laptop without taking off their gloves. Optional dual mode touch screens with digitizer and multi-touch is also offered to allow faster and smoother operations in the field.

"If you're out in the field with no access to a power source, the length of your battery life is a real issue, which is why we have designed the new V-series to use power saving technology," said Antonio Carotenuto, Business Development Manager of Getac.  "This means we can now offer users up to 15 hours of battery life with the V100 and up to 13 hours with the V200."

The new range is MIL-STD 810G and IP65 certified which means the devices are guaranteed to withstand shocks, vibration and drops, and are built to continue working in the most punishing of temperatures from as low as -20 degrees Celsius right up to 60 degrees Celsius.

The V-series unique ergonomic design features a full-size mechanical keyboard with waterproof keys, for maximum functionality and comes with the option of a backlit mechanical, or rubber keyboard. It also incorporates Getac's bespoke fan-less build.

Built-in communication and connectivity features include wireless LAN 802.11 a/b/g/n, Gobi™ mobile broadband and Bluetooth 4.0 for those who need to be in touch with their base.  Users will also benefit from the superior precision and sensitivity of the SiRFstarIV GPS providing optimum positioning accuracy.

The V-series boasts integrated USB 3.0 which allows data to be downloaded 10 times faster than previous models, whilst a 320GB hard disk (HDD) provides the user with the ability to store large amounts of data for use in the field, and 4GB RAM (support up to 8GB) provides fast access.
