International Soy Experts Meeting in Argentina Called by the Round Table on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS)


25 international specialists from different fields met in Buenos Aires to analyze Responsible Soy Principles and Criteria

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina, March 30 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The Development Group of the international organization Round Table on Responsible Soy Association (RTRS) met in the city of Buenos Aires in order to design the final document on "Responsible Soy Principles and Criteria."

Such document will be formally submitted at the 4th International Conference in the city of Campinas, Brazil, on May 26 and 27 and will be voted on during the RTRS General Assembly to be held May 28 in the same city.

The meeting was attended by 25 international specialists from different fields: producers, trade, banking and science representatives, as well as civil society entities.

During the meeting, agreement was reached to draft the document entitled "Principles and Criteria for Responsible Soy." The document will be the global standard, aiming for its universal application in all geographical regions as well as for all kinds and sizes of soy production operations.

Christopher Wells, RTRS President, said, "We have made significant progress toward achieving a future international standard that considers the responsible production of soy." In regards to the future, he emphasized that, "At the next General Assembly in Campinas, Brazil, in May, we must approve this document whose practical application sets in motion an effective mechanism to responsibly produce soy throughout the world, contributing to sustainability."

RTRS is a global initiative bringing together producers, industry, finance and trade representatives, government organizations and civil society entities that are concerned about the impact soy has on the economy. Its main objective is to reach consensus on standards related to responsible soy production and processing, promoting the best available practices throughout the value chain.
