HONG KONG, March 31 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Last night in Hong Kong, London Business School and its Dean, Professor Sir Andrew Likierman, celebrated their number one position in the Financial Times MBA rankings with members of the alumni community based in the region. During the event, Sir Andrew highlighted the importance of Hong Kong as a place for future development for London Business School.
Over 80 alumni attended the celebration as well as top corporate executives. Sir Andrew enthusiastically addressed to the audience, saying that London Business School will have a stronger presence in Asia, especially China, in the near future. He went on to say that he hopes the School will maintain its prestigious position and continue to compete with the other top schools around the world. Sir Andrew indicated that the School has already been approached by prominent universities in China for collaboration.
London Business School launched its EMBA Global Asia programme last year in collaboration with two top Schools -- Columbia Business School and the University of Hong Kong. This programme is one of the world's top EMBA-Global programmes and feedback from the first class has exceeded expectations. This was particularly evident during the time of financial crisis. The first class enrolled 34 students representing 12 nationalities, with more than half of them already holding Masters Degrees. The second class will commence in May and so far, responses have been good.
Sir Andrew also updated the audience on the School's development. He informed guests that student numbers have increased by 35-40% over the past four years with the School now having 100 faculty members from 30 countries. The School, rated by the Research Assessment Exercise, holds the highest average research score of any UK academic institutions. At present, the School has 400 students on its MBA programme. In early 2010, London Business School was ranked number one in the Financial Times MBA rankings.
Sir Andrew went on to share with the alumni his latest research on "Successful Leadership". He pointed out that success is often assumed to be about profit or Total Shareholder Return, "but it's neither", he stated.
Sir Andrew continued, "For those who want to check on their leadership success, for those who appoint leaders and for outsiders (including analysts and competitors) assessing the quality of leadership, checklists of traits are not enough. Nor are comparisons with Jack Welch, Bill Gates or even Ghengis Khan. What's needed is how to overcome the measurement problems. So, a number of preliminary steps are necessary to make sure that measurement is robust."
Sir Andrew's speech was well received by the audience, who are mostly alumni at senior level in finance/investment sectors and various other industries.
