As the leading starch industry event among Asian countries, this international starch conference is co-organized by the China Starch Industry Association and UBM Live, and has received strong support from Corn Refiners Association, Thai Tapioca Starch Industry and Riddet institute (Massey University). The theme of this year’s conference is ' Understanding New Trend of Industry, Exploring New Application of Starch'.

As an honored speaker, he will introduce to attendees the topic: 'Potato Starch: A Potential Source for the Creation of Next Generation Bulk-ingredients and Smart Foods.'

Co-editor of a 528 page text book entitled "Advances in Potato Chemistry and Technology", Singh also served as the editorial board member for organizations such as 'Food Chemistry', "The International Journal of Vegetable Science' and 'Potato Research'.

Participants at the conference will have the opportunity to hear his expertise and learn more about the various applications of potato starch and its future possibilities from a global perspective.

It is widely known that the exceptional physico-chemical and morphological characteristics of potato starch make it useful for a wide variety of food and non-food applications, for example the biomedical, pharmaceutical, and paper and food industries.

The characteristics of potato starch such as swelling power, solubility, gelatinization, rheological characteristics, mechanical behavior and enzymatic digestibility are of utmost importance while selecting it for distinctive applications. Thus, more domestic and foreign enterprises are turning attention to potato starch and worldwide industrial players are making vast investments in bio-based technologies and processing plants with the expectation of establishing a multi-billion dollar industry.

Potato starch may generate high revenues by enabling the creation of a stream of new consumer-focused, value-added functional export ingredients and smart finished foods through intelligent precision processing.

At the current time, understanding of starch structure and its behavior during food processing and human gastro-intestinal digestion is a novel concept for the development of healthy functional foods and is an emerging area in the science of starch chemistry and nutrition. It can also be used to make value-added functional export ingredients and smart finished foods to enable more benefits.

In addition, the potential of potato starch for industrial scale use is being explored in areas such as biomedical, pharmaceutical, and paper. Potato starch based bio-plastics and biodegradable cutlery are becoming increasingly popular due to their biodegradability and good physical properties.

The 2015 Asian Starch Conference is set to combine high quality speakers with a social environment ideally suited to industry analysis and addressing questions. Join now!
