"Die & Mould China", which is staged in Shanghai in every even year, has gone through 20 years' development since its first edition in 1986 and its scale has evolved from 3,000 m2 in 1986 to 60,000 m2 in 2006. With the continuous expansion of its scale and influence, its authoritativeness and professionalism are generally recognized in the industry, and it has become the largest die and mould exhibition in Asia and one of the most famous professional exhibitions at home and abroad. Eleven editions of Die & Mould China have been held successfully up to now and in 1996 Die & Mould China became the first exhibition brand in Shanghai to join the UFI.

The Chinese government has consistently supported the development of the die and mould industry. China has listed the development of dies & moulds and their processing technology and equipment into the "Current Catalogue of Key Industries, Products and Technologies that the State encourages to develop" and the "Catalogue of Industries for the Guidance of Foreign Investment". China's die and mould industry has been developing rapidly at a growth rate of 15% every year over the last ten years or so. During the "Eleventh Five-Year Plan" period, China's die and mould industry grew robustly in both production and sales and continued to develop at a high speed while the output, quality and level of dies and moulds have made further improvements. The market for dies and moulds is very broad in China and the development of the auto industry and IT industry will set a higher and higher demand on the grade of dies and moulds. The high-quality die & mould manufacturing equipment guarantees the advancement of the die & mould technological level. In 2006, the sales of dies and moulds reached RMB72 billion, or about US$9.3 billion, an increase of 18% over 2005; the export volume of dies and moulds was US$1.041 billion, increasing by 41% over 2005. The import volume of dies and moulds was UD$2.047 billion, the same as in 2005. The export volume of dies and moulds was US$1.1 billion from January to October 2007 and is expected to exceed US$1.3 billon for the whole year. The above indicate that the overall strength of our die and mould industry has been further enhanced. Therein Zhejiang Province, Jiangsu Province and Shanghai Municipality ranked second, third and fourth among all the provinces in China that export dies and moulds. The ranking shows adequately that the die and mould-manufacturing level in the Yangtze River Delta continues to take the lead in the industry. Guangdong Province, the largest exporter of dies and moulds, fully demonstrated its die and mould-manufacturing strength with its investments from Hong Kong. Shandong Province and Anhui Province in East China are also among the top ten die and mould exporters in China. All the above shows China's die and mould-manufacturing level has advanced greatly in the last two years and has approached or reached international levels.
