SYDNEY, Australia, Nov. 1 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Reuters announced today that it has enriched its coverage of the world's energy markets with the acquisition of EnergyBankLink (EBL), the leading provider of information to the Australian Power and Gas markets. This reinforces Reuters position as the market leader in the provision of information to these markets and cements the relationship between Reuters and EBL which spans over ten years.

EBL's content packages bring Reuters customer base access to

industry-leading content covering exclusive prices, news, data, reference rates and benchmark analytics. As markets deregulate, EBL content is proving instrumental in providing transparency to the power market in Australia.

The acquisition will strengthen Reuters existing foothold in the Australian market as well as positioning Reuters for expansion throughout the Asia-Pacific region. Reuters will seek to leverage its market leading position in Australia to provide broader and deeper news and information for all energy industries including, power, coal, natural gas and emissions trading, as these markets evolve and open up across the region. The deal supports Reuters strategy of growing its commodities business in Asia by investing in high value content and insight. EBL content will continue to be available to subscribers of Reuters 3000 Xtra and Reuters Trader for Commodities.

Diccon Close, Managing Director, Reuters Australia, said, "The work we have been doing with EBL over the past decade has focused on originating high value content in developing Australian Electricity and Gas markets, with the aim of helping our customers make profitable trading decisions. With the acquisition of EBL, we are now extremely well placed to develop new content sets for other emerging asset classes across the Asia Pacific region to further complement our market leading Commodities and Energy product range."

Ian Clampett, Director, EBL, said, "This deal cements the long-standing working relationship between Reuters and EBL and allows EBL the access and resources to look into new services in emerging markets and geographies."
