2015-09-21 17:27 2048

SINGAPORE, Sept. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- From October 17-19, Singapore American School (SAS) teachers will participate in the first Professional Learning Communities at Work™ Institute for International Schools. Over 85,000 educators in the US have taken advantage of this world-renowned event organized by education training provider Solution Tree. To strengthen teachers' professional learning communities that contribute to the highest levels of learning at SAS, the school is hosting the institute. Educators in Singapore are invited to attend the institute as well.

The professional learning community process is one of the most powerful strategies for sustained improvement and high performance. Focusing on learning, building a collaborative culture, and results orientation are the three main tenets of a PLC. Tailored for international schools, the PLC at Work Institute will feature some of the most influential thought leaders and practitioners in these areas.

SAS teachers new to PLCs will use this institute to build their knowledge, while those already involved in PLCs or who lead PLCs will assess their progress, identify high-leverage future steps, and explore how to use the PLC process to support students' development, regardless of their learning levels, into world-class critical thinkers.

In addition to SAS educators continuing to expand their professional learning communities experience, several SAS faculty will begin a new customized doctoral program through the University of Southern California to continue their own educational leadership learning journey.

SAS executive director of teaching and learning Treena Casey says, "This PLC institute will provide inspiration and support to both SAS teachers and others in the region looking for high-impact strategies supporting student achievement. What an amazing opportunity to work with inspiring PLC experts!"
