In line with the Gala theme and in keeping with the commemoration of Penang and its diverse culture and heritage, Lee Hwa has chosen to showcase works heavily influenced by the Peranakan culture - a fusion of Chinese and Malay artistry that is at once dramatic and elegant.
Reflecting the sense of aesthetics of both Malay and Chinese influences, the two collections sport elaborately-designed floral motif. The eye-catching Ratu - Malay for Queen - necklace personifies the characteristics of the quintessential Peranakan matriarch - strong and powerful, yet regal and majestic to behold. Comprising an artistic patchwork of finely-wrought white and rose gold flowers and liberally encrusted with round brilliant diamonds, Ratu makes a strong statement, exuding distinct grandeur and a mature style that reflects the sheer personality of the women for which it was crafted.
In contrast, the dainty Sang Putri collection stands out with its grace and elegance. Comprising a tasteful and intricate composition of radiant blooms in white gold with a sprinkle of glittering diamonds, the delicate and ornate floral motif features youthful girlish curves that bring out the essence of the beauty and vitality of a young Nonya - the Princess of the family. Sang Putri encompasses a necklace and a bracelet.
The two collections will be paired with a special collection of evening dresses by Malaysian-born and internationally acclaimed fashion designers - Zang Toi and Yeoh Lee - at the event.
