Launches TCL S800 and TCL S600, Featuring the Debut of Aridion™ Waterproof Nano-Coating Technology in China
HONG KONG, Aug. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company", together with its subsidiaries referred to as the "Group"; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited shipment figures for its handsets and other products for July 2012.
In July 2012, sales of the Group's handsets and other products totaled 2,952,683 units, representing a year-on-year decrease of 18%. Sales of smartphones and other smart devices totaled 569,048 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 295%, and sales of smartphones as a proportion of the Group's total monthly shipment reached 19%. Meanwhile, 473,141 units were sold in the PRC, and 2,479,542 units were sold in the overseas markets. For the first seven months of 2012, the cumulative sales volume of handsets and other products amounted to 21,566,734 units, representing a decrease of 6% compared to last year; while 3,308,183 units were sold in the PRC market, representing an increase of 51%; and 18,258,551 units were sold in the overseas markets. The cumulative sales volume of smartphones and other smart devices totaled 2,772,793 units, increased by 790% year-on-year.
The Group plans to launch two new smartphones - the TCL S800 and TCL S600, which are the first phones to adopt the Aridion™ waterproof Nano-coating technology in China, and are both equipped with an over 4 inch screen, 1.0GHz dual-core A9 processor, Android 4.0-ICS operating system and built-in smartphone voice assistant. With the theme of "Enjoy Our Lives", the TCL S800 is equipped with a HDMI adaptor and offers access to the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance), allowing streaming your pictures and videos from the handsets to your DLNA-enabled TV or computer instantly and wirelessly. With the integration of Cloud storage, Cloud antivirus, Cloud control, Cloud backup and an 8 million pixel rear camera, the T Cloud service takes meticulous care of all of the user's needs. With the theme of "More Comprehensive Entertainment", the TCL S600 is equipped with a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor that provides smoother gameplay, web-surfing and video playback. With a 5 million pixel rear camera and the support of multiple video format players, users can have fun anytime, anywhere. Riding on its "Step-Up" strategy and its efforts to enhance product R&D, the Group plans to launch the first Firefox OS smartphone in Brazil in 2013 in collaboration with Mozilla Corporation and Telefonica, the fifth largest broadband and telecommunications operator in the world. Firefox OS is an open mobile ecosystem adopted by HTML5 which can unlock most of the current limitations in web development on mobile devices, an innovation that is expected to facilitate the popularity of smartphones and to bring a new smartphone experience to users.
The Group continues to strengthen the brand, ALCATEL ONE TOUCH. Chris Tiu, a Chinese-Filipino famous basketball player, was invited to be a brand ambassador for ALCATEL ONE TOUCH in Philippines. The Group launched a number of new smartphones in the Philippines, including the limited edition ONE TOUCH 991D and ONE TOUCH 995.
