Year to Date Sales of Smartphones & Other Smart Devices Jump Fivefold YoY

Deepens China Market Penetration with New Product Launches

HONG KONG, Oct. 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited ("TCL Communication" or the "Company", together with its subsidiaries referred to as the "Group"; HKSE stock code: 02618) today announced the unaudited shipment figures for its handsets and other products for September 2012.

In September 2012, the Group's total sales volume of handsets and other products reached 3,968,049 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 5%. Sales of smartphones and other smart devices totaled 767,610 units, up 287% year-on-year, contributing 19% to the Group's total shipment. A total of 605,482 units of handsets and other products were sold in the PRC, while 3,362,567 units were sold overseas. The year-to-date sales of handsets and other products reached 29,168,825 units over the first nine months of 2012, down 4% compared with last year. Of these 4,429,200 units were sold in the PRC market, a year-on-year increase of 48%, and 24,739,625 units were sold overseas. The year-to-date sales of smartphone and other smart devices totaled 4,184,863 units, marking a year-on-year increase of 540%.

Backed by its proven "step-up" strategy and product development capabilities, the Group continued to deepen its market penetration in China by launching new products tailored to local consumers. The Group unveiled its TCL S500 at China Unicom's launching ceremony for new 3G dual-core smartphones in Xi'an on 12 September. Designed for China Unicom, TCL S500 is strategically priced at an affordable level (around RMB1,000) to attract a broad spectrum of consumers. With a streamlined sports car body design and thickness of only 10.8mm, the device is equipped with a 4.0-inch screen, 1.0GHz dual-core processor and Android 4.0-ICS operating system, enabling fast browsing and efficient multi-tasking.

The Group also launched TCL D662, a GSM+CDMA 3G EVDO dual mode smartphone featuring a 4.0-inch high-definition display, 1GHz processor and Android 2.3 operating system. Pre-installed with practical office tools and China Telecom's popular e-surfing applications, TCL D662 truly caters to the working and infotainment needs of users, making it the first choice for young white-collar professionals. Since its launch, TCL D662 has proven to be popular in the market, helping the Group to grow its market share and strengthen its brand recognition in China.

In its overseas markets, the Group continued to grow its market presence and brand awareness through participation at leading consumer electronic trade shows and conducting brand promotion activities.  In early September, the Group participated in IFA 2012, one of the world's leading trade shows for consumer electronics and home appliances in Berlin.  The event attracted more than 1,400 exhibitors, 240,000 visitors and generated over 3.8 billion euros of orders. The Group showcased its ALCATEL ONE TOUCH brand, leveraging on its new Android flagship product – the ALCATEL ONE TOUCH 997D – which wowed the international media and trade dealers alike. The ALCATEL ONE TOUCH 997D has a large 4.3 inch display and comes with a liquid-repellent P2i nano-coating, running on the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. A large number of pre-installed apps and games, and an 8 megapixel camera make the Dual-SIM-Smartphone the perfect mobile entertainment device. The showcase further reinforced the "Be Simple, Be Smart" philosophy behind "ALCATEL ONE TOUCH", and expanded the Group's distribution network in Europe.

After sponsoring the Le Tour de France 2012, a well-known global cycling event in June this year, the Group sponsored La Vuelta 2012 in September for the second consecutive year through the "ALCATEL ONE TOUCH" brand. La Vuelta is another prestigious international cycling competition taking place in Spain. With the eye-catching ALCATEL ONE TOUCH caravan and mascots accompanying cyclists along the routes, the Group not only reinforced brand affinity with the participants, but also raised its profile among audiences worldwide. To generate further publicity, a Facebook fanpage was created to provide up-to-date race information, as well as to feature a cycling game called "One Touch Andro Ride" which recreates the routes of Le Tour de France and the La Vuelta.

While making steady inroads in its business development, the Group did not let up on its commitment to the well-being of the community. In September, the Group joined hands with the Orange Foundation, the corporate and social responsibility arm of the operator, Orange, to donate over 4,600 backpacks, notebooks and other school supplies to orphans and underprivileged schoolchildren in Dominica. The charity event did not only strengthen the Group's relationship with Orange, but also gave the Group a meaningful opportunity to support those in need.
