As an internationally renowned independent third-party inspection, testing and certification provider, TUV Rheinland has launched the world's first certification standard for wearable devices to help manufacturers stand out and gain a competitive edge. This certification not just gives consumers the choice of owning the safest high-quality wearable devices but in fact also promotes industry development.

2014 proved to be an eventful year with the highlight being the global launch of Lenovo's Yoga 3 Pro Laptop. As the third generation model of the widely acclaimed Yoga Ultrabook, the Yoga 3 is Lenovo's star laptop for 2014. In addition to its outstanding technical performance, this model also comes with the world's first Paper Looking Display Certification mark issued by TUV Rheinland. This technology is mainly aimed at creating user-friendly and eco-friendly electronic products.

"Lenovo's choice of TUV Rheinland as partner demonstrates our joint commitment towards developing green products. Our strategic partnership can further strengthen the execution of our mission for environmental excellence and user experience optimization," said Halstenbach at the award ceremony.

Technological Power, Smart Innovation

Currently, the concept of wearable devices is gaining high recognition and is expected to soon become a mainstream consumer electronic product. Analysts predict that the sales of this highly sought after product will soon hit 7.1 billion US dollars. Moreover, owing to the increased demand, major technology drivers in the industry have been investing heavily in R&D and have launched their flagship products. As a pioneer in the wearable device industry, smart brackets are the latest devices embraced by the smart consumers and media.

With the increase in sales of wearable devices, many companies have contributed to R&D and introduced a variety of wearable products with different shapes and functions, but when it comes to product safety, performance, smart and wearable functions there has been room for improvement. To address this gap, TUV Rheinland launched the world's first certification standard for wearable devices which would let the manufacturers prove safety, smart and wearable functions of their products while also boasting its user-friendly approach.

While the Paper Looking Display Certification process takes innovation and smart intelligence into consideration, it also looks at ensuring that the products meet standards on ergonomic design, i.e.  1) Automatically detects ambient light illumination and adjusts the brightness of the screen accordingly, to protect users' eyes. 2) Automatically detects the light source and adjusts the colour tone accordingly, ensuring natural and comfortable user experience.

"TUV Rheinland is an internationally renowned and independent third party testing, inspection, and certification body. We truly appreciate TUV's noted reputation for the strictest international standards in the IT industry. Throughout our strategic partnership, TUV has provided professional services customized to the meet the stringent needs for our PC products certification," commented Zhuo.

Environmental Protection and Health Brings Quality of Life

Such devices are expected to integrate into the user's life as seamlessly as possible, which may mean close contact with the user to collect data for long periods. Since users' primary concern is device safety and quality, it inevitably becomes an important aspect which determines the future possibility of popularity. In accordance with the international standards, TUV Rheinland tests the safety of the device, the battery and the power adapter. Wireless connectivity, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and hazardous substance are also certified within the scope of assessment in order to minimise the potential hazards of wearable devices.

Currently, the green concept has been firmly established around the globe and TUV Rheinland has always encouraged the development of green and sustainable products by making it key values in the company's core vision. TUV Rheinland is incorporating green product certification, designed to make self-regulatory norms for consumer goods and their impact on the environment, thus aiding IT manufactures in providing safe, environmentally responsible and sustainable products.

"TUV Rheinland has long won international trust as a leader in providing green solutions. With their help, Lenovo will continue to incorporate an eco-friendly approach into product design, living up to its promise to environmental protection," stated Yu.

This is the latest since the long history of cooperation between these two firms, as Lenovo's monitors, all-in-one PCs, tower PCs and laptops allreceived comprehensive green product certifications.
