Young Visionary, Jack Andraka shares his perspectives on innovation, which led to his monumental groundbreaking discovery at Frost & Sullivan's GIL 2012: Silicon Valley

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 7, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Frost & Sullivan's global community of senior executives will convene at this year's Growth, Innovation and Leadership (GIL) 2012: Silicon Valley event on September 9 to 12, 2012 at The Fairmont in San Jose, California. Participants will share, engage and inspire a continuous flow of new ideas, along with fresh perspectives, in order to leverage innovation as a resource to address global challenges.  Day two of this year's program will commence with a GIL Bite presented by an inspiring innovator; 15-year old Maryland High School student, Jack Andraka.

Andraka's discovery is recognized as an innovative new approach in the early detection of pancreatic cancer and possibly any disease. This modern day innovation will replace a 60-year-old technique called enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), which is used in pregnancy test strips as well as viral checks for HIV, West Nile virus and hepatitis B.  In his GIL 2012: Silicon Valley address, Andraka will share his journey to becoming a visionary innovator which led him to this ground-breaking healthcare discovery.

"It's a next generation diagnostic technique which is 168 times faster; 26,667 times less expensive and 400 times more sensitive," said Andraka. "The sensors detect the presence of cancer-linked proteins well before the cancer itself becomes invasive and within minutes, can identify changes in conductivity detecting targeted viruses or antigens faster and more accurately than today's standard diagnostics."

This patent pending sensor earned Andraka recognition at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2012, where he was named the recipient of the Intel Foundation Gordon E. Moore Award.

"Drawing from his own life experience, Jack's forward thinking is not only inspiring, but reminds us where the visionary innovator in all of us comes from," said Frost & Sullivan Vice President and Global Head of GIL Brian Denker. "It's Jack's inquisitive curiosity and creative out of the box thinking which led him to discovering an approach that addresses a large and seemingly impossible problem all too familiar to us all, effectively creating a life-saving technique earning his place among the 'Young Visionary Innovators' of our time."

Andraka will join hundreds of senior level executives at this year's GIL 2012: Silicon Valley event, in which CEOs and their management teams will come together to share best practices and engage one another in this year's journey toward visionary innovation.  Participants attending GIL 2012: Silicon Valley will take part in dedicated interactive industry think tanks helping executives fortify their visionary perspective for the future.  Denker added "Companies who leverage a 360 degree view of their industry outlook, examining critical factors which influence market growth and opportunities, are not only better positioned to anticipate and respond to today's rapidly changing marketplace but ensuring their long-term growth and success."
