NORTHBROOK, Ill., Aug. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global safety science organization, announced that they have changed the safety standard used for Adjustable Speed Electrical Power Drive Systems from UL 508C (Standard for Power Conversion Equipment) to UL 61800-5-1. This alignment of requirements will allow manufacturers faster global market access for motor drives by getting certified internationally to 61800-5-1 (United States) and CSA C22.2 No 274 (Canada) and to receive a CB Certificate to IEC 61800-5-1 (Europe and other countries throughout the world).

Manufacturers can now rely on one source for all compliance testing and certifications for motor drives. This allows for product introductions into multiple markets across the globe with a single, streamlined certification process. UL can combine tests to certify UL, CA and IEC standards, so a manufacturer can undergo testing in one project.

This harmonization of national requirements saves both time and costs and offers manufacturers access to:

  • Europe/International
    • CB Certificate and IEP Test Report to IEC 61800-5-1
    • Type Test Certificate or UL-EU Mark to be used for CE marking to EN 61800-5-1
    • EMC Testing Services (e.g. IEC 61800-3)
    • Functional Safety Mark according to applicable standards (e.g. IEC 61800-5-2)
    • Global market access services for specific markets (e.g. China, Russia, India and Brazil)
  • United States
    • UL Certification Mark for the United States according to UL 61800-5-1
    • UL Functional Safety Mark according to applicable standards (e.g. IEC 61800-5-2 and UL 61800-5-2)
    • EMC Testing Services (e.g. IEC 61800-3)
  • Canada
    • UL Certification Mark for Canada according to CSA C22.2 No 274
    • EMC Testing Services (e.g. IEC 61800-3)
