UL Awards the World's First UHD Television Performance Validation to Samsung

SEOUL, South Korea, March 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- UL, a world leader in advancing safety science, recently announced that it has awarded the first UHD Television performance validation to Samsung UHD TV S9, for its picture quality, 3D performance and sound quality. Samsung is the first manufacturer to obtain the UHD Television performance validation by UL.

Products that achieve the validation are assessed and validated for a wide range of criteria. The criteria includes: Uniformity, Four Point Viewing Angle, RGB setting, Grey & Black Level, Resolution-Visible, Cross Talk (3D), and Sound. "Official recognition from UL represents a significant step in the advancement of the entire Ultra High-Definition television market. Our goal -- to provide the ultimate TV experience -- is being met through the support and endorsement of the global standards," said Hyogun Lee, senior vice president of Visual Display R&D team at Samsung Electronics.

To meet assessment needs from TV's new technologies, UL has been expanding its services from electrical safety testing to performance / validation testing.
