BEIJING, Dec. 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- December 5, 2013, United States Vice President Joe Biden, joined a breakfast gathering of American business leaders from AmCham South China, the US China Business Council (USCBC), and AmChams Shanghai and China (Beijing) at the Beijing St. Regis Hotel sharing his thoughts on his recently held meeting with China's leadership.
Prior to joining the breakfast Vice President Biden met with AmCham South China President, Harley Seyedin and presidents of USCBC and AmChams China (Beijing) and Shanghai. During this meeting, the Vice President offered his encouragement and showed strong support for the growth of American business in China.
After joining the breakfast gathering, Vice President Biden thanked the three AmChams and USCBC for their contributions to the US-China economic relationship and commented that the business leaders in the room "live the US-China Business relationship" every day and know the "opportunities and obstacles" of doing business in China very well.
The Vice President was positive about the meetings he had held with China's President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, elaborating that the U.S. and China are trying to build a new relationship based on "constructive cooperation, healthy competition, and shared respect" based on agreed upon rules for the road and international norms. He said that a window of opportunity now exists to establish a set of new rules that can guide the two nations down the road of opportunity in the 21st century. Vice President Biden said that he believes that President Xi Jinping is committed to reforms outlined after China's 3rd plenum and that these reforms are in the best interest of China going forward. He also noted that China's economic growth is in the U.S. interest.
Members of AmCham South China who attended the breakfast meeting expressed that the message delivered by Vice President Biden was positive and that his meetings with Chinese leaders would contribute to the growth and strengthening of the economic relationship between U.S. and China.
