Taking Shanghai as an example, it is currently the city with the highest level of urbanization in China, yet its forest coverage, uniformity of forest distribution, per capita forest ecosystem services acquired are relatively low. Last year, the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal People's Congress revised the Shanghai Landscaping Ordinance, and officially put the new version into effect from October 1, 2015. One of the main contents of the ordinance revision is to put forward some mandatory requirements for the construction of vertical planting in Shanghai, which clearly states the following: for the construction of new public buildings as well as reconstruction and expansion of the existing public buildings in the city center of Shanghai, greening should be implemented to the flat roofs with a height that does not exceed 50 meters. As we can see, governments at all levels are paying more and more attention to the vertical planting, so the vertical planting will usher in a major historic opportunity for development.
