Company’s relief donation rebuilt damaged building in remote village
CHENGDU, China, Sept. 17 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today held an unveiling ceremony for the new “Corning Dormitory,” building located at the Yangling School, Jiange County, Sichuan Province. Corning’s earthquake relief donation went through the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) to rebuild the dormitory that was severely damaged during the earthquake that hit Sichuan Province on May 12, 2009.

Given the remote location of Jiange County the ceremony, attended by the school’s principal and several students, was held at the Chengdu CCS Optical Fiber Cable Co., Ltd., manufacturing facility. The four-floor dormitory can accommodate approximately 480 students; half of the school’s students will benefit from it.
During the ceremony, Corning also announced that as an on-going support effort for the school it will invest in a science lab for the students by donating lab equipment.
Corning China CEO, Eric Musser who attended the unveiling ceremony said, “The earthquake in Sichuan has had a terrible impact on China and on millions of its people. Corning and its employees responded to earthquake relief through various ways. Our donation to the Yangling School aligns well with our CSR focus on education. We hope the new dormitory, that was graciously named after Corning, will positively and directly impact the lives of the students who will stay there..

Yangling School is located in Jian’ge County, Sichuan Province, 400 kilometers from Chengdu. The total population of the school is 860 students and 54 teachers. Its dormitory building was severely damaged during the May 12th Sichuan Earthquake.
