HONG KONG, Feb. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Hong Kong Baptist Hospital hosts the grand opening for the Kai Tak Community Health Centre (KTCHC) today at Sung Wong Toi Road, Tokwawan, Kowloon. The opening ceremony was officiated by Mr Anthony Ting Yuk WU - Chairman of Hospital Authority, Dr Chun Lok LAU - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hospital, Dr John FENN - 2nd Vice Chairman of the Board, and Dr Raymond Chung I CHEN - Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital.

Kai Tak Community Health Centre is comprised of Renal Centre, Holistic HealthCare Centre and Chinese Medicine Clinic. It targets to provide a full-spectrum of diversified medical services to patients in need in the local community. Hong Kong Baptist Hospital has taken a big step towards materialising its long-term vision of "In the Service of Man" with the opening of this new Centre.

The First Private Hospital in Hong Kong to Launch Community Renal Centre

The Renal Centre in KTCHC is the first community haemodialysis centre operated by Hong Kong Baptist Hospital. The Centre is equipped with 20 sets of state-of-the-art haemodialysis machines to provide haemodialysis service to both local and overseas patients. The latest haemodialysis machines are not only equipped with auto-installation functions, but also with centralised systems, which allow nurses to monitor the operation of all machines at anytime. The Renal Centre is also equipped with two sets of high-quality Central Water Treatment Systems, which work together with thermal sterilisation to offer highest level of security for patients. Besides the advanced dialysis equipment, each bed is also furnished with individual LCD TV and internet service to ensure a comfortable environment for patients during treatment. Furthermore, the Hospital also provides pastoral care to patients to take care of their psychological health in one go.

The Hospital estimates the new Renal Centre can serve 120 end-stage renal failure (ESRF) patients with 12,000 treatments annually. In order to promote the service to a wider pool of patients, the Centre has also joined the “Haemodialysis Public-Private Partnership Programme put forward by the Hospital Authority. ESRF patients currently receiving treatments from either public or grant hospitals can thus enjoy haemodialysis service provided by the Centre. By joining this programme, more patients can be benefited from the lower-cost treatment option and better-quality service. With such, the Hospital can effectively give back to the society and further fulfill its corporate social responsibility.

A Holistic HealthCare Centre that Cares also for Psychological Health

Hongkongers suffer a lot from immense work and life pressure and people are being more conscious about emotional wellness in recent years. To cope with the surging demand, Hong Kong Baptist Hospital launched its Holistic HealthCare Centre to offer comprehensive service to patients in the community through care, counselling and education. Counselling service offered by the Centre covers all major areas of psychological needs, emotions, pre- and post-marriage consultation. The Centre also provides rehabilitation care services to discharged patients and relatives to help them cope with pressure and maintain peace of mind. The Centre also conducts various certificate courses on "Emotion and Stress Management", "Mental Health First Aid" and "Positive Parenting" through which the Hospital aims to convey related knowledge and positive messages to the public.

It is the Hospital's long-term vision to nurture holistic health concept that covers both mental wellness and understanding towards meaning of life via services provided by the Holistic HealthCare Centre.

Holistic Chinese Medicine Clinic

Kai Tak Community Health Centre also includes a full-scale Chinese Medicine Clinic which is under direct management of Hong Kong Baptist Hospital. Services offered by the Clinic include diagnosis, treatment, acupuncture, Tuina therapy and Chinese herbal healthcare. Chinese Medicine Clinic conveys similar concept as Holistic HealthCare Centre. They both emphasise physical wellness as well as mental wellness. While working on treating diseases, Chinese medicine also helps stabilise patients' state of mind to facilitate quicker recovery. This goes perfectly in line with the holistic approach that the Centre promotes.
