exands Leads Wi-Fi Security Standard by Launching China's First Hotspot 2.0 Service

2016-07-13 21:30 2280

BEIJING, July 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- exands, China's leading Wi-Fi service provider, supplied a Wi-Fi Hotspot 2.0 service for over 1,000 white hat hackers at Wooyun's annual "White Hat Fest 2016-unplugged" from July 8-9, 2016 in Beijing. Wooyun is China's most well-known and largest security community and this is the first time Wi-Fi Hotspot 2.0 service has been launched in China.

The Wooyun White Hat Fest is an important and influential international event, which gathers the most prominent "white hat" hackers - individual hackers who detect and report security loopholes and help prevent cyber-attacks. As the first Chinese firm to invent SMS authentication to access Wi-Fi and the first to introduce national roaming Wi-Fi functions, exands has long been a pioneer in promoting network security. The Hotspot 2.0 Wi-Fi service provided by exands for the hackers at the conference demonstrates exands' capability in strengthening safety and security in the wireless network segment.

Consumers in China see Wi-Fi as an essential service in places such as cafes, restaurants and shopping malls, and many Wi-Fi providers offer services to those businesses for free which usually come with an advertisement on the Wi-Fi landing page.

However, advertising revenue generated from the Wi-Fi portal does not cover installation and maintenance costs and as a result, free Wi-Fi providers use low cost equipment with no security guarantee. This means neither shops, Wi-Fi service providers nor advertisers have taken consumers' online security into consideration.

Recently, white hat hackers have reported over 600 security issues and loopholes associated with Wi-Fi service providers, some of which could lead to potential leakage of personal information of hundreds of millions of Wi-Fi users in China.

To combat this, more and more businesses are now turning to exands, whose paid Wi-Fi service has already been adopted by 239 international brands, to allow consumers to enjoy a safe Wi-Fi surfing environment in their offline stores.

"Although many people remain unaware of the risks posed by Wi-Fi network security, exands has taken a step further to provide a Hotspot 2.0 service in China," said Guoming Lu, CEO of exands.

"Hotspot 2.0 is focused on enabling users to automatically and securely connect to Wi-Fi networks while on the move. exands' service currently covers more than 200 cities in China and serves over 290 million people and Hotspot 2.0 will be gradually rolled out nationally. This will increase consumer loyalty and drive more business value for retailers."
